We were pleased to welcome the US Coast Guard Electronics Support Detachment (ESD) unit based in Portsmouth, Virginia and some of the group’s family members to the Pea Island Cookhouse Museum on October 2, 2020.  We had a great time sharing the history of Keeper Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers with these special visitors.  Despite having to socially distance and wear masks when in close proximity, we had a wonderful time.  Also, a special thanks to the ESD group for shouting out loud the three words, “Freedmen, Surfmen, Heroes’ during their visit, three words used in our ongoing education initiative to make everyone easily remember what the story of Keeper Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers is all about.
