PIPSI Proud Day!

We recently celebrated the anniversary of the E.S Newman Rescue which occurred on  October 11, 1896. Cartwright and Collins Park were alive with music, food, fellowship and awesome raffle prizes made possible by the Pea Island Preservation Society in partnership with The Town of Manteo with donations/discounts from Big Al's Soda Fountain, Poor Richard's, UPS, Food-A-Rama, Food Lion, Max Silverman, Detective James Burroughs and Bill Zottoli owner of Olde Towne Creamery in Manteo. A special thank you to Paul Herold of Pixel Perfect OBX for photo coverage and Town of Manteo public works guys for manning the grill! Top prize in the Richard Etheridge Essay Contest went to Sophia Canche of Dare Learning Academy with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place going to Micera Billups of Manteo Middle, Quinn Cerino and Hailey Radogna both of First Flight Middle, respectively. Special thanks to our panel of judges, Coquetta Brooks, Angel Khoury, Bill Zottoli, Dwayne Gibbs, Lula Tillett and George Carver. Wayside exhibits honoring Richard Etheridge, The Legacy of Pea Island, The E.S. Newman Rescue and Herbert M. Collins were unveiled as well, made possible by a grant from The Outer Banks Community Foundation. Our new painting, "Joint Rescue", by artist James Melvin was also unveiled.
