Honoring Richard Etheridge - U.S. Coast Guard Cutter, "Richard Etheridge"

U.S. Coast Guard Base - Portsmouth, VA

In celebration of Black History Month, PIPSI continues it's tradition of teaching "Freedman, Surfmen, Heroes to all Dare County fourth graders but via a virtual lesson plan due to the Pandemic. Students are being introduced to an important piece of Dare County history--the unique story of Keeper Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers inspiring them and askong them to write essays describing the character traits shown by the lifesavers and making connections to themselves and their communities. Thanks so very much to all Dare County fourth graders, fourth grade teachers and elementary school principals for allowing us to continue to share this story and create a fun and memorable history activity during this challenging time...Be Safe & Be Well!!
