Annual Richard Etheridge Essay Contest  - Dare County 4th Graders

In celebration of Black History Month, PIPSI continued it's tradition of teaching "Freedman, Surfmen, Heroes to all Dare County fourth graders but via a virtual lesson plan due to the Pandemic. Students were introduced to an important piece of Dare County history--the unique story of Keeper Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers inspiring them and asked to write essays describing the character traits shown by the lifesavers and making connections to themselves and their communities. First, Second and Third Place Winners will be announced this week and posted here so please come back and visit our site for the "Big Reveal"!!!!!!
